Need A Home Office? Renovate An Airstream

Posted on: 17 January 2022

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way so many things are done, including the amount of time employees are working at home instead of going into the office. Unfortunately, not everyone has a quiet place to work in their home, which can ruin their good reputation with their employer and cause problems with their relationships within the household. If you are working at home and don't have a good, quiet place to work, consider transforming an airstream into a home office. There are several bonuses from doing so, including the ability to take a home office deduction on your tax return and taking your work with you while you travel. Here's how to get the office of your dreams.

Contact an Airstream Renovation Company

Contact an Airstream renovation company. Describe your situation to them and that you would like to have a home office in a renovated Airstream or another type of RV. Typically, these types of renovation companies have Airstreams and other RVs ready to be renovated and tailored specifically to the client's needs and wants.

To Travel or Not to Travel

To help you reach decisions for the layout of the interior of the space, as well as any special features you'll want to have to accommodate your home office needs, it's a good idea to consider how and when you will use the Airstream. Will you want to travel with it? If so, you'll want to make sure the office desk and chair, and the office equipment are all installed in a way that will allow for traveling and movement. On the other hand, if you don't expect to travel regularly with your home office, you won't have to be concerned about the simplicity of securing furniture and office equipment for traveling.

It's important to understand that if you use your Airstream solely for the purpose of a home office, you can then deduct the expenses on your tax return. However, if you use the Airstream for traveling as well, you won't be able to claim the entire Airstream as a home office deduction unless the office furniture and equipment is in a back corner or at the end of the Airstream where the space will only be used by you and only be used for work. The Airstream renovation company can assist you in selecting the best location for your office within the Airstream if you decide that you do indeed wish to travel in it as well.

What's In a Contract?

Those who build things and repair things for a living are often referred to as contractors. This may seem like an odd term, but it traces back to the fact that these folks work on a contract-by-contract basis. First, they may work under a contract associated with your home. Then, they may take on another client under a new contract. Plumbers, HVAC repair teams, builders, painters — they are all contractors in some way. Construction workers are also contractors. We encourage you to read and learn more about their professions and what they involve here on this blog, where we'll post often.
